Napoleon Perdis talks Miranda Kerr (David Jones 2013)

Napoleon Perdis was backstage at the recent David Jones Autumn/Winter 2013 Fashion Launch as Makeup Director for the show. The beauty trends he followed were neutral lips, fresh skin and smouldering eyes.

Models he worked with on the new season launch included Samantha Harris, Jessica Gomes and Miranda Kerr.

Napoleon discussed working with superstar Miranda and how he created her look:

“This is the fourth David Jones launch I’ve done with Miranda and our connection is the strongest it’s ever been. It’s really gratifying as a makeup artist to know that she has nabsolute faith and trust in my work – and she was willing to take her look a little further than perhaps she would normally. We went stronger on the eye this season, and since her hair was pulled back, it really made her features stand out. Everything works on Miranda’s face!!”

Skin

“Miranda’s skin is perfection… Really, you could send her down the runway bare-faced and she would still own it! I used a touch of Mighty Concealer Pen and a dusting of Camera Finish Powder Foundation. Then to really pump up her complexion under the harsh catwalk lights I used Mosaic Powder Flushing mixed with a little Loose Eye Dust in Starlight to highlight her cheekbones.”

Eyes

“I will always customise a look for Miranda.. her makeup needs to stand out! We really played up the eyes to complement her updo. Lots of liner pressed into the lashline (I mixed my China Doll in Copper, Equinox and Earth). I also did some contouring work in her sockets with some darker neutrals from my Ultimate Nude Palette and applied at least four coats of my new Magnif-Eyes Mascara. I managed to talk Miranda into lining the inner rim of her eyes with my black pencil. It really made all the difference and I’m so happy she took my advice!!”

Lips

“I had the envisaged the perfect shade for Miranda’s lips a few days before launch. That “just bitten” effect, like she’d been kissing for hours. I created this shade by first staining with my lip pencil in Pinot Noir and then applying DeVine Goddess Lipstick in Hera for a subtle metallic sheen. A touch of Luminous Lip Veil in Cocoa pulled it all together.”

“Working with any woman, you always learn something from them. But I find this especially the case with Miranda; she is just so deeply content in her own skin. She has been blessed with phenomenal looks, but more importantly, a beautiful spirit and energy. There is such a sense of calm, balance and radiance that eminates from within her, it’s truly energizing to be around. Miranda is perfection – a true Aussie beauty!”
