Oralie Maylin is the National Makeup Artist for Laura Mercier, and this little tip arrived in my inbox and I wanted to share with you. Lips can be difficult, especially when they are a statement colour like red, here is how to do it right:
“When doing statement lips you want the colour to be striking, sharp and clean.
The best way to achieve this is by lining your lips with a lip pencil that matches your natural lip colour. Then to achieve true, long-lasting lip colour, fill your lips with a lip pencil that is the same (or as similar as possible) to the lipstick you want to apply.
To apply your lipstick, always use a lip brush as it will ensure precision application. To really make the lips pop, I like to take some of Laura Mercier’s secret brightening pen and paint on top of the cupids bow to really bring it out.
Keep the rest of your makeup to a minimal as this will make your lips pop out more. Do not apply much colour on your eyelids and keep the blush soft.”
And what Laura Mercier lips products does Oralie recommend for the perfect red lip? The True Red Lip Pencil ($30) with Haute Red Creme Smooth Lip Colour ($35).
Are you a red lips kind of girl?
