Philips Lumea Precision Plus

The Philips Lumea Precision Plus is a best seller in Europe and is now available to Australian customers. This at-home IPL (intense pulsed light) hair removal system is designed to give you silky smooth skin without ever visiting the salon.

The cordless device works by releasing light and heating up the hair and hair root under the skin – the hair absorbs the pulses and goes into sleep mode. This might sound a little scary but it is safe to use on your skin. The Lumea comes with a special optical UV filter which protects the skin and there is no risk of damage.

This product works best on dark hairs, it isn’t suitable for grey, red or light blonde hair. Anything darker from dark blonde to black will work as long as the skin isn’t brownish black or darker. It is really important to read the recommendations carefully as it isn’t suitable for everyone.

I have personally been using the Philips Lumea Precision Plus over the last two months and with light skin and dark hair I am a good candidate! This can be used on almost any area of your body (including the face) and I tested it on my legs, bikini and underarm areas.

To begin I started by charging the Lumea. You need to shave the area first before using, and remove any regrowth. There are two attachments, one for the face and one for the body and five settings to choose from, and after some experimenting I ended up using setting 4.

It feels comfortable to hold and when you place it on your skin it needs to be in the correct position otherwise it won’t work (this is a safety feature). When the light goes green you can press the button and it gives out a bright flash of light. You can feel a hot sensation, especially on the more sensitive areas but it certainly doesn’t hurt. Comparing this to waxing or epilation, this is easy!

You need to zap each spot once, the bikini and underarm areas are really quick and the legs take some time.

The process is then re-done every two weeks until the hair is no longer growing, and then maintenance is required every four to eight weeks.

For me, I am not completely hair free yet but I can see it is making a big difference. My legs have been the most successful and I rarely need to shave them any more.

My bikini and underarm areas had much coarser hair to begin with so I did expect it to take a little longer. The hair growth in these areas has been stunted and my underarms in particular only need to be shaved every few days, rather than daily. After each treatment I notice less hair and a slower growth time so I am excited to see how it looks after a few more uses.

I am prone to ingrown hairs when waxing so the lack of these is a really big happiness factor for me!!

With a lifetime of 100,000 flashes (that’s at least five years), and virtually pain free this takes the hassle out of hair removal.

In summary, if you are looking for an instant fix this isn’t it – but it is a quick, easy, safe, and long lasting way to achieve hair free skin on your body and face.

Even though the pricetag looks quite high, if you are purchasing in salon treatments this is going to be a big saving for you!

The new Lumea Precision Plus is available from Shaver Shop stores nationally with a RRP of $1,299.95.

  1. This would be perfect for me to try as I suffer from dark facial hair since going through menopause.

Shaving is unsatisfactory and I am allergic to something in some of the waxes available.

This could become my Holy Grail of hair removal.

    Thanks for the interesting blog.

  2. I also am going through menopause & have hashimoto thyroid disease it’s like a double whammy with dark facial hair this would truly be a Holy Grail!!, as I am currently epilating as I am allergic to waxes it irritates my facial skin terribly 🙁
