A new trend in nails is Marbling, it gives you a fun effect and you can do it at home. To prove how easy it is (and despite my terrible photography skills) I tried the following How To which was sent to me by OPI’s educator, Karon McKendrick-Taylor.
Step 1: Prepare your nails. File, push back your cuticles and apply a base coat. In the spirit of quick and easy I simply applied a base coat this time but it would look a lot neater if you did the full prep.
Step 2: This is the interesting part, you apply nail polish in tiny drops (about the size of a pin head) in contrasting or complimentary colours. I found it works a lot better with the runnier polish – a bit messier but it doesn’t dry quite as fast and you can marble much easier. I used black and pink. The first nail I did went a bit crazy but once you get the hang of it and the right amount of product it looks better.
Step 3: You need a toothpick or a pin, and you swirl the colours by gently dragging it through.
Step 4: Remove any excess polish from the edges using a cotton bud dipped in nail polish remover.
Step 5: Wait for it to dry and once it has set apply a top coat. Please note this will take longer to dry than regular polish.
Have you tried nail marbling? What do you think of the technique?
Beauty and Lace is an online magazine for women. We hope you enjoyed this article!
I do nail marbling but in a different way. I have a cup with water in it and I put drops of nail polish in and then swirl a bit. Dip your nail in and then you have the polish on your nail. (Very shortened description). Marbling is fun and each nail is different and unique.
That sounds good too, do you put your nail in face down? Otherwise you’d get it all over your fingers?
I do it like Ann-Marie. You put your nail in face down. But I put some vaseline around my nail so that the excess polish just wipes off or it’s a complete mess!
Have a go 🙂
I will have to try that way as well, thanks for sharing. You know, I have found that my nail polish has lasted a lot longer with the marbling than it normally would too!
Ahhhhhh never heard of this but now you have me INTRIGUED. Definitely giving this a go 🙂 thanks for the tips.
