On a budget or prefer to splurge? I have been busy moisturising with a range of products to find my top picks from Less to Luxe.
I have also made sure to include solutions for different skin types – happy reading!
(LESS): Cetaphil Daily Advance Hydrating Lotion
The fact that this is fragrance free is a plus for me, in this case simple is better and this is for those who need moisture without worrying about added irritation.
RRP: $9.35 / Size: 85g / Stockist: 1800 800 765
(LESS): Yes to Blueberries Intensive Repair Serum
I have used Yes to Carrots in the past and have always been a happy customer, but this is my first foray into the world of blueberries. 99% natural, this is a product designed for age-damaged skin. As the name suggests this is a serum and doesn’t have that rich, creamy factor like many anti-aging products.
The Intensive Repair Serum contains blueberries which are rich in antioxidants, cotton thistle for hydration and collagen boosting, blackcurrant for essential fatty acids and apple to refresh and brighten. A lovely combination of fruits to give your skin a boost.
RRP: $29.95 / Size: 30ml / Stockist: Coles, David Jones and Priceline
(LESS): Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturiser
The Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturiser from Aveeno is for irritated skin which needs some love. For dry, sensitive, winter skin it contains Feverfew which is a relative of Chamomile and helps to soothe and offer relief.
Your skin gets added daily protection with SPF15 for UVA/UVB sunscreen. The scent is very minimal and the texture starts quite thick but it absorbs easily into your skin, especially if it is calling out for moisture.
RRP: $24.95 / Size: 75ml / Stockist: 1800 029 979
(LESS) Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily Moisturiser
Normal and combination skin girls will benefit from the Healthy Defence Daily Moisturiser from Neutrogena. Another one containing sunscreen (I know I go on about it all the time but sunscreen really is essential all year round), this is SPF 30+ with broad spectrum UVA / UVB.
This is more about preventing skin aging than reversing it and it has Vitamins E, A and C. Blends into skin quickly and works well under makeup.
RRP: $16.49 / Size: 50ml / Stockist: 1800 678 380
(LESS) Innoxa Thirsty Skin Intensive Hydration Day and Night Creme
For the small pricetag, Innoxa’s Thirsty Skin Intensive Hydration Day and Night Creme is beautifully packaged in a pink jar.
Made in Australia (originating in France), this product is designed for our harsh climate and is for Dry, Flaky skin. There are no parabens and you will notice a difference in your skin’s texture even after the first use.
RRP: $29.95 / Size: 50ml / Stockist: 1300 650 981
(LESS) Clean and Clear Essentials Moisturiser
Clean and Clear’s Essentials Moisturiser would be ideal for young, teenage skin as it helps to prevent skin problems while being oil free. There is no greasiness or clogging and won’t leave your face looking shiny.
SPF 15 with UVA / UVB filters, it does have a slight fragrance but nothing overpowering. Use with other products in the Clean and Clear range for a pimple fighting routine.
RRP: $ / Size: 100ml / Stockist: 1800 029 979
(LESS) Nivea Daily Essentials Light Moisturising Day Cream
From Nivea is the Daily Essentials Light Moisturising Day Cream. It has a light texture and made for normal to combination skin. This is a nice one for everyday use as it glides on and lasts for 24 hours.
Once again, we have SPF 15 and some other interesting additions including Lotus extract for intensive moisturising. For $12.99 you can’t go wrong with this one as it works surprisingly well.
RRP: $12.99 / Size: 50ml / Stockist: 1800 103 023
(LESS) Garnier Youthful Radiance Daily Moisturising Lotion
Something that stood out for me with this product, even before opening the box is that there is no deception about product size. I find a lot of moisturisers come in big boxes and when you open it up the product is much smaller – this one has an image on the front that is true to scale.
This is a thick formulation, but is designed for sun damaged skin which often requires something rich and soothing. Fine lines, sun spots and uneven skin are the targets for Youthful Radiance and it contains Lycopene, Vitamin C and Magnesium.
RRP: $19.95 / Size: 75ml / Stockist: 1300 659 259
(LESS) Johnson’s Face Care Moisturising Day Cream
Johnson’s isn’t just for babies, their Face Care Moisturising Day Cream is pH balanced for a healthy complexion and a nice budget pick.
Quite moisturising, you can use it daily on your face and neck – and also on any pesky dry spots on your body like elbows and knees. The packaging is a simple white and if the brand is good enough for babies delicate skin they must be doing something right.
RRP: $7.79 / Size: 100ml / Stockist: 1800 029 979
(LESS) A’kin Hydro Essential Lavender Cellular Brightening Facial Mist
A natural and refreshing face spray is the Hydro Essential Lavender Cellular Brightening Facial Mist from A’kin. Suited to all skin types, this alcohol free product would be a good replacement for your regular toner or used as a face “pick me up” during the day.
The ingredients are mostly natural and there is Vitamin C, B5 and Aloe to help calm, brighten and hydrate tired skin. No animal ingredients or testing, the packaging is also recyclable so you can beautify with a good conscience.
RRP: $24.95 / Size: 125ml / Stockist: 1800 631 283
(LESS) Palmer’s Daily Calming Facial Lotion / Rejuvenating Facial Serum
Palmers Cocoa Butter is a staple for many women, but the brand isn’t just limited to this one product. There are two newies in the range I particularly like for the face – the Daily Calming Facial Lotion and the Rejuvenating Facial Serum. The lotion is for sensitive skin and is calming with Aloe, Chamomile and Milk Proteins.
There is no fragrance and it feels quite light on your skin, no clogging or irritation. The serum is more for those who need a bit of a lift and brightening for their complexion, it really works to even out your skin and give you a smoother base. A little goes a long way so use sparingly!
Daily Calming Facial Lotion – RRP: $12.99 / Size: 100ml / Stockist: 1300 191 918
Rejuvenating Facial Serum – RRP: $19.99 / Size: 30ml / Stockist: 1300 191 918
(LUXE) Estee Lauder Re-Nutriv Intensive Softening Lotion
Estee Lauder always get me with their packaging, and their Re-Nutriv Intensive Softening Lotion comes in a gold box. The product itself looks like it is shimmering inside it’s container and it makes you want to jump right in and start using it – this is due to it containing “micronised particles of elemental gold”.
Used after cleansing, morning and night, you sweep it over your face with a cotton ball. This gives the skin additional hydration and softness and your face the preparation it needs to start the day. It feels barely there after applying, just beautiful. I’m classing this as luxe, but really the container is quite large at 250ml so it is definitely value!
RRP: $100.00 / Size: 250ml / Stockist: 1800 061 326
(LUXE) Dermaquest Skin Therapy Advanced B5 Serum
From gold packaging to silver, we have the Dermaquest Skin Therapy Advanced B5 Serum. Serums are often used after cleansing and before moisturising and the B5 Serum works to repair and prevent skin damage while giving you a healthy glow.
It contains Sodium Hyaluronate which might sound like a bit of a monster ingredient, but in fact it is a dermal hydrator = face friendly and helps the product and active ingredients penetrate into the skin.
RRP: $110.00 / Size: 29.6ml / Stockist: 1300 799 709
(LUXE) Comvita Protective Day Moisturiser
At $50.00 the Comvita Protective Day Moisturiser for normal to dry skin is only on the verge of being luxe, but the product is really lovely and feels quite luxurious so I will stick with that. Contains Manuka Honey which is definitely the stand out feature, you can even smell a slight honey scent.
It feels quite thick but not gluggy, and the honey helps to reduce inflammation, heal and fight bacteria. Manuka Honey is also high in antioxidants, I’m in beauty lovers heaven. The other ingredients include Vitamin E, sunflower oil and macadamia oil.
RRP: $50.00 / Size: 50ml / Stockist: 1800 466 392
(LUXE) Apivita Wine Elixer Anti-Wrinkle and Firming Night Cream
Apivita is a brand from Greece, and they may have found the secret to everlasting youth (ok so I’m exaggerating a little but skin will look more youthful) with their Wine Elixer range. The active ingredient in red wine is called Reservatrol which has been clincally proven to help increase your skin’s elastin.
With the Anti-Wrinkle and Firming Night Cream you can literally get your beauty sleep, this smells lush and is made from 93% natural ingredients. A nice creamy texture, the night cream could be a little intense for daytime use, but is scrumptious for a winter night.
RRP: $84.90 / Size: 50ml / Stockist: 03 9594 6366
(LUXE) Rodial Glamtox Night
With this shiny silver packaging you will feel like a celebrity, the Rodial Glamtox Night is a night cream which is a step you should definitely consider before cosmetic laser treatments.
With a list of active ingredients, the product is designed to reduce the appearance of aging and wrinkles, smooth fine lines, repair sun damage, reduce the appearance of age spots, smooth and brighten skin tone and plump the skin…a big list of promises but so far I have noticed a difference and I am only part way through the trial. For best results use every night for three months.
RRP: $140.00 / Size: 100ml / Stockist: Available exclusively from Myer
(LUXE) Dermalogica Extra Firming Booster
If you tortured me to find out my favourite skincare brand of all time, it would likely be Dermalogica (as a beauty editor it is TOO hard to choose so it would need to be under duress), and I am especially fond of their skin boosters. The Extra Firming Booster comes out as a small drop of serum and is highly concentrated to assist in firming your skin.
It gives the skin that tightened feeling, and can help to fight premature aging. Contains Seaweed extract, Vitamin C and Protein Peptides.
RRP: $80.00 / Size: 30ml / Stockist: 1800 659 118
(LUXE) Ella Bache Fruit d’Eclat a la Tomate Bio
Something a little different now with the new Fruit d’Eclat a la Tomato Bio from Ella Bache. A product that is 99% natural with one very special ingredient – active organic tomato extract. This feels luscious on your skin and is light but still highly moisturising.
If organically grown tomato doesn’t contain enough antioxidants or vitamins for you, this also combines other organic fruits including apricot, orange, grape, mulberry and carrot extracts. While this is artificial colour and fragrance free, it does have a nice faint natural scent to it.
RRP: $105.00 / Size: 50ml / Stockist: 1800 789 234
(LUXE) Subtle Energies Mogra and Indian Rose Gold Cream
The ingredients in the Gold Cream from Subtle Energies are extravagant but completely gorgeous and made for your face. Rose Oil is precious and one of the most treasured essential oils, and combined with the exquisite Jasmine and 24k Gold this is skincare made for an ancient princess.
This is fairly rich so I would suggest it for Dry or Mature skin, rather than sensitive or young skin. The essential oils give it a relaxing scent – kind of like walking into a mystical shop. Made in Australia with no petrochemicals, no parabens, no synthetic preservatives, fragrances or colours and no animal testing.
RRP: $96.80 / Size: 50ml / Stockist: 1300 992 017
(LUXE) SK-II Facial Hydrating UV Cream
SK-II is a Japanese brand and the crisp packaging of their Facial Hydrating UV Cream reflects this. After trying a range of rich face creams, this is a bit smoother and lighter and hydrates skin without being too thick.
The consistency is probably the highlight of the product, as it makes it so easy to apply. It has SPF 15 and protection from UVA / UVB rays. I found this one to be worth the pricetag and it is suitable for everyday use.
RRP: $115.00 / Size: 50g / Stockist: 1800 012 169
(LUXE) DDF Advanced Firming Cream
DDF (Doctor’s Dermatologic Formula) Advanced Firming Cream is the most expensive product in this feature so I have saved it until last. The packaging is a shiny silver and it comes in a pot. The consistency feels just right, it isn’t too runny but it isn’t thick either – it just smooths into the skin.
The Advanced Firming Cream blends in quickly and there is no shiny or greasy residue. Use it morning and night, the ingredients include Tumeric complex, glycerin, zinc and copper to help aged skin and provide lasting protection. If skin is in need of something a bit more special and hardworking I would definitely point you towards this product.
